History

The history of the Department dates back to 1774, when it was known as the botanical Department. Subsequently, it was designated the Department of Public Gardens and Plantations and in 1923, the Department of Science Agriculture. In 1944, when the Government Chemist's Division was separated from he Department, it became known as the Department of Agriculture.
