Our Collections
The holdings of the Department are divided into two (2) sections – the Historical Collections housed in the Archives Unit in Spanish Town and the Audiovisual Collections, comprised of the holdings of the former Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation, housed at the Audio Visual Unit in Half Way Tree.

Archives Regulations:
These rules may be cited as the Record Office (Archives) Rules, 1969 &1973 (adapted):
- The Reading Room of the Archives Unit is opened every day except weekends and public holidays.
- Opening hours for the public are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Mondays to Thursdays and from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Fridays.
- Any person using the Reading Room for the purpose of consulting the records should sign the Research Register each day by writing his name, address, telephone/email and the subject of research.
- No bags, suitcases or any bulky objects are allowed in the Reading Room.
- Smoking is prohibited in the Reading Room or any other part of the building used for the storage of archives.
- Silence is to be observed in the Reading Room and all adjacent areas.
- No food or drink is allowed in the building.
- Only pencils may be used for the purpose of taking notes in the Reading Room, all other writing implements are prohibited.
- No person is allowed to lean, crumple, tear or mark any record or book in the custody of the Archives.
